Description
The Vila Gale Ampalius is perfectly placed for golfers and non-golfers alike. We like its ideal location in Vilamoura right next to the beach and close to the marina.
The hotel has its own shopping arcade and the health club’s indoor pool has the unusual feature of windows looking into the outside pool. The restaurant and bar area has recently been renovated and now has an airy, modern feel to it and a good vibrant atmosphere – just the place to chill out after a day’s golf.
The casino is just next door and the marina, with its wealth of bars, restaurants and night life is only a few minutes walk away. The beach is adjacent to the hotel and you can enjoy a lazy non-golf day here or by the hotel’s own outdoor pool.

The new and exclusive Victoria course is the latest addition to the fabulous Vilamoura resort. Designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, no expense has been spared in creating a course to challenge Europe’s best. According to Palmer, the links style encourages an exciting risk and reward strategy – so be prepared to lose a few balls!! With 22 lakes and, 5 tee positions on each hole, most noticeable about the course is the enormous lightning fast greens, one is estimated to have a total surface of 800m2 !! Victoria is a great test and may even come to rival the Old Course as the Vilamoura flagship golf venue.

Facilities: putting green, practice ground, academy, buggies, trolleys, restaurant.
Clubhouse: artistically built in a luxurious environment, it overlooks the 9th and 18th greens and has a great view of the course. Pro-shop, bars, restaurants with outside terraces are all available
Saturday 24th May:

The course has two architects. The American WILLIAM MITCHELL designed holes 1 to 5 and 15 to 18 in 1974. These holes (as with the other course) share a unique character. The terrain is superb and typical of the area, sandy and littered with umbrella pines trees. In the spring, the rough is covered with a blanket of wild flowers, heather and gorse.
The Fairways and tees are covered with Bermuda hybrid with a cool season mixture of grasses, which provides year-round, top quality swards. The greens are sown with Creeping Bentgrass Penncross, giving a fast, true putting surface, and which provide good all-year round putting surfaces. The bunkering is incomparable, both on the fairways and surrounding the greens and gives the course an advantage over many of similar quality and design.
This course has four great Par 5 holes requiring power and accuracy to play them well, also providing superb views. The Par 3 holes are all influenced by the wind, hole 14 is outstanding. The Par 4´s are all doglegs except for holes 10 and 13. Precision driving is vital to set up the chance of a low score. Lakes on holes 12 and 18 claim many victims. The course is an anti-clockwise loop and favours those that can draw the ball.
These holes have more cross falls on the fairways than the other layouts and all the Par 4 and 5 holes are doglegs, demanding precise tee shots, to set up straightforward approaches.
Holes 6 to 14 were designed by JOSEPH LEE with the collaboration of ROCKY ROQUEMORE, both from the USA, and opened in 1989.
