Gentlemen
Welcome to the new golfing season, particularly to our New Members. So far we have 83 members inclusive of which are 5 honourees.
The season has begun in earnest and there’s many games ahead so happy golfing.
Firstly we should take this opportunity to thank all those who have kindly sponsored SPGS events for the coming season, a list of whom can be found on our website.
La Moye Classic
A highly successful La Moye Classic was held on 6 March. A beautiful day reflected by some good scoring, a delicious meal and a few drinks.
Winner on the day of the green jacket was our Vice Captain Roy Gallichan with a sound 39pts, followed by Nigel Johnson and Clive Hansford with 37pts.
The winning team was Roy Gallichan, Mark Duckett, Eddie Burns and Barry Dawson with each scoring over 30pts.
After a sumptuous meal, a hardy few enjoyed a Tantivy coach journey into town for a few more beverages to round off a great day. Some photo’s can be found on the SPGS gallery website, the one of me is faking drunkenness!
Alexander Forbes Order of Merit
There have been 2 monthly medals to date.
Wheatlands – 28 March (sponsors Bargain golf Balls)
This was a stableford competition and was won by John Whittaker with a fantastic 23pts including 1 birdie. Second was Nigel Gillard, well done to the old boys!
Les Mielles South – 25 April (sponsors CI Engravers)
This was a strokeplay competition and was won by Tony Burt with an excellent Net 33, gross 36 less his handicap of 3. Tony pipped Richard Streets and Max Delph on countback.
FOOTNOTE:
I must remind all members to make sure cards are completed properly and that you play with another member. Dan has a hard enough job to do and I can assure you he does not enjoy disqualifying anyone. Unfortunately last month we had a member who shot a Net 32 and would have won, not only did he play with a non-member but also a lady (albeit his mum!), Fitzy take note major fine!!! John Leonard was subsequently DQ.
MEMBERS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Captains v Vice Captains
The Captains Team of 12 triumphed over the Vice Captains team, the overall score being 407pts to 396pts.
Dan Hare had the best score of the day with 43pts, followed by Martin Patton 40pts and Micky Wallser on 39pts
The conditions were good and an enjoyable afternoon’s golf was had by all.
