ST.PETER’S GOLF SOCIETY
June 2008 Newsletter

Gentlemen

Welcome. Sad news to begin with lads; Howard Taylor is returning to England July time so shall be resigning as Handicap Secretary and member - I’m sure you’ll all wish to join me in thanking Howard for his valued contribution to the Society and to wish him and his family every success in the future. Replacing Howard, as Handicap Secretary will be Dan Hare – so please join me in welcoming Dan to the Committee

Vilamoura

Firstly, a special thank you goes to Jason Quenault and Jon Welsh for organising such a great trip – it went like clockwork.

Secondly, to the 28 guys on the trip, I’d just like to say thank you for showing such impeccable behaviour and respect whilst travelling under the name of St Peter’s Golf Society.

Congratulations must go to Shane Whitwell who won the Overseas tour – great focus and consistency – Well done!

I think it’s fair to say that most of us found the courses very long and difficult, lots and lots of bunkers, not to mention loads of trees and water – which was reflected in the low average points scores.

However, despite the course challenges a fantastic time was had by all and the trip was successful - it was a pleasure guys – well done and thanks for the memories!

The Knockout

The Draw for the knockout has been made and details are available on the Les Mielles Notice Board.

The final day of the Qualifying league is Saturday, 14 June and all knockout matches must be played by then. NB: Please make sure you contact your opponents and get your games completed by then.

As per last year, the 1st round losers of matches played and recorded will be included in the draw for the knockout plate. Good luck to all.

Alexander Forbes Order of Merit competition

The April Order of Merit competition was kindly sponsored by CI engravers and was played at Les Mielles on the South. It was a strokeplay competition and was won by Jon Welsh (8) with a Net 30 and Runner-Up was Richard Streets (9) with a Net 31.

The May Order of Merit competition was kindly sponsored by Blackhorse Offshore and was played at Les Mielles on the North. It was a stableford competition and was won by Jack A’Court (18) with 22 points and Runner-Up with Graham A’Court (19) also with 22 points, but losing on countback.

As present, our Order of Merit leader is Tommy Noel with 49 points, closely followed by Jon Welsh with 44 points and Richard Streets with 37 points.

A long way to go lads – good luck to all.

As always, all clothing etc can be ordered via Richie Gallagher.

Website

As you are aware, Dan Hare has kindly created the St Peter’s Golf Society website which was launched in May. Please join me in thanking Dan for his efforts in getting this project off the ground. To date we have received 583 hits, and the feedback has been really positive.

Also, included on the website, are all match results, order of merit standings plus much more information. Some pages are still in development, but the site is regularly being updated for your ease of information.

If you haven’t checked the site out yet please log onto www.stpetersgolfsociety.co.uk and take a look around.

Finally, thanks for taking the time to read this newsletter and if you have any items that you would like included in future newsletters please let me know.

Happy golfing!
