ST.PETER’S GOLF SOCIETY
February 2008 Newsletter

Gentlemen,
The new golfing year is about to start and it promises to be a busy golfing calendar. The management committee started planning this the 15th Anniversary year last year and it is their intention to make the celebrations last all year.
The first thing I would like to inform you of is a brief update on the AGM as this is the only event since Nigel sent out the January Newsletter

The Annual General Meeting on February 20th
A total of 32 attended the AGM and apologies were received from a number of members.
After the minutes of 2007 were accepted some discussion took place about the success of the new points system for the Order of Merit competition and it was agreed by the members that it had worked well last year.
The amendment to the knockout league was discussed and it was agreed to leave this format the same for this year. Therefore when you submit your 2008 application/ renewal form please indicate if you wish to play in the knockout.
The draw for the knockout will be on April 1st, 3 days after the March presentation and if you haven’t renewed your membership the £25 late joining payment comes into force.
The Secretary’s report, Treasurer’s report and Handicap Secretary’s report were all read and big thank you to Nigel, Terry and Howard for all the work they did last year.

Alteration to Rules
A proposition from Jason Quenault seconded by Jon Welsh to define the role of an Honorary President and include Honorary Members was accepted unanimously.
The second part of this proposition was to honour the significant contribution made to St Peter’s Golf Society by Mark Taylor, Kevin Andrieux and Roy Syvret by making then Honorary Members. This too was accepted unanimously.

Subscriptions
The 2008 subscription was agreed at £50 and £20 for juniors. Subscriptions become due from the AGM. Please send your remittance to Terry Ward, 11 Abbotsmount, St Johns Road, St Helier, JE2 3LA, made payable to ‘St Peter’s Golf Society’.

The 2008 Calendar
The 2008 calendar is attached in ‘Draft’ format as there are a couple of details to be confirmed with other Societies and late season dates.
The season begins with The La Moye Classic – sponsored by C I Engravers and Tommy Noel on March 7th and there are 32 members paid, with a limit to how many can play, if you would like to be part of the season opener sent £60 to Terry Ward as soon as possible.
The day begins when we meet at La Moye Golf Club for coffee, bacon rolls and instructions at 07.45. The first tee off is scheduled for 08.30. Society colours should be worn.
The Society is fortunate to have this competition at La Moye so all playing are reminded to observe the code of conduct expected by La Moye specifically in regard to no mobile phones and dress code of jacket and tie and do remember that we are all ambassadors of our Society.
Michael Fitzgerald will start lunch with the Green Jacket, but will he be able to retain it?
Here is to a great day and start to our season – and the fines!!

The Order of Merit begins at the end of March at Wheatlands. The next scheduled fixture is then the 18 hole Captain v Vice Captain match on April 6th. Please see the attached calendar for further details

The 15th Anniversary Tour 2008
Vilamoura at the end of May for a week playing at Villamoura Old, Vilamoura Millennium, Vilamoura Pinhal and Vilamoura Laguna (twice) was presented by Jason Quenault.
The tour will stay at Vila Gale Ampalius and the cost is £700, 27 members have paid a deposit, the balance will be due shortly so please contact Terry if you have an outstanding payment
Deposits of £100 will be due by the end of May 2007.

Team League
It was agreed that the Society would continue with a third team in the Condorferries Golf Society Team League. Alan Cabot will captain the A team, Ricky Muddyman the B team and Jason Quenault the C team.
The league commences on April 7th. Please indicate if you wish to play for one of the league teams when you pay your 2008 subs and complete the attached form. Don’t forget you must be a playing member of Les Mielles Golf & Country Club to play in this league.

New Membership Application
New members should complete the 2008 application form from now on. There are copies on our board at Les Mielles and a copy has been submitted to go on our page of the Les Mielles web site. Applicants are asked why they wish to join the Society and are required to have an existing member propose and second their application. They will not have to pay the entry fee if their application is considered before April 1st.

Clothing/Merchandise
A new tee shirt has been commissioned for the 15th Anniversary year and a Society mug as well a tie; all are available from Richie Gallagher 486576 who can arrange special deals for multi-purchases!

So in summary, please fill in the application/renewal form and return to Terry Ward, this will give the society up to date information that can then be shared with the membership.

An entry form for the 15th Anniversary Invitational is also included and it would help the committee in trying to organise if we could all enter a soon as possible.

Thanks for taking the time to read this newsletter through and happy golfing!
