ST.PETER’S GOLF SOCIETY
March 2008 Newsletter
Gentlemen
Welcome to the new golf season, particularly to new members, R Gaskell, B Parker, W Parker, R Streets and C Eaton. So far we have 78 paid up members, 3 juniors and 4 honorary members.
La Moye Classic
The season kicked off on 7 March at La Moye with the La Moye Classic, sponsored by CI Engravers and Tommy Noel. Russell Welsh won the individual prize with 39 points and Mick Le Brocq was runner up with 38 points. The team event was won by Jason Quenault, Mick Le Brocq and Roger Pugsley with 94 points on countback from Michael Fitzgerald, Graham A’Court and Bob Ricketts.
We were pleased to re-unite Jason Quenault with the previously won St Peter’s Golf Society Trophy’s, which were found at Bellozane, by our very own “Stig of the Dump”. Needless to say, Jason was heavily fined for the privilege…..SHAME ON HIM!
Following the Classic, some members headed into town with 1 member eventually returning home at 10 o’clock Saturday evening…what a session! A great day was had by all.
Wheatlands – March 2008
The St Peter’s Golf Society Order of Merit kicked off at Wheatlands with new member Robert Gaskell scoring a very good 22 points. Tommy Noel was a distant second with 18 points and Nigel Johnson taking third place on 17 points. 50 players participated – an excellent turn out.
Captains v Vice Captains
24 members played in this 18 hole match on 6 April at Les Mielles. Bizarrely, 1 player left after 9 holes apparently because he had a chicken to cook!
Notwithstanding the cold and windy conditions, an enjoyable afternoon’s golf was had by all and the match finished 6 – 6. Well done to all those that took part.
The Knockout
The Draw for the knockout has been made and details are available on the Les Mielles Notice Board. NB: Make sure you contact your opponents.
The final day of the Qualifying league is Saturday, 14 June.
As per last year, the 1st round losers of matches played and recorded will be included in the draw for the knockout plate. Good luck to all.
Team League
The Condorferries team league has started well with the A team winning 4 - 2 against the Western Ladies. Unfortunately the B team lost 2 – 4 against the Western Men.
